The big clubs names did not disappoint in the first match of the round of 16. The biggest victory went to Igualada, winning with a surprising 13-1 victory over the French Lyon (3 goals by Gerard Ribà). Even the recent WSE Cup finalist, Galileo Follonica, confirmed his performance, winning 6-0 against German side Remscheid (3 goals from Marco Pagnini), while Voltregà Stern Motor needed a very intense second half to beat a good Diessbach for 6-3 (three goals from Aleix Molas). The Italian derby was won by Ubroker Bassano on the Grosseto rink 4-3, thus having the return in front of their fans to try to get back to the Quarters (2 goals from Mattia Baggio). Photo-finish victory for Braga on Spanish soil in Alcoy: match decided only at the last minute by two goals from the Portuguese by Hugo and Mendes, overturning the 2-1 for the Spaniards, making them favorites going through to the next round. Away victory also for Coutras who with twice from Povedano and Serio manage to win in Germany against Herringen. Even Why Sport Valdagno manages to beat the three times WSEC champions, Finques Prats Lleida, 4-3 (two goals for Motaran and Garcia). Winning comeback for Recam Laser Caldes who in the last three minutes managed to go one goal ahead against the excellent French team of La Vendeenne, supported by three goals from Debrouver. Marc Gonzalez with his two goals turned the tide of a match that often saw the French ahead. In two weeks the return matches and in some rinks will be rather balanced matches as we have already seen in this first evening.
