Charleroi 2023 – Competitions formats

Charleroi 2023 engages 14 nations, which will engage multiple teams in an event regrouping the European Championships for 5 categories.

All engaged nations

Fourteen (14) nations are engaged : Belgium – Czech Republic – Finland – France – Great Britain – Germany – Ireland – Italy – Namibia – Poland – Slovakia – Spain – Sweden – Switzerland

Engaged Nations – Charleroi 2023

Namibia has been included into the Charleroi 2023 event after the decision of World Skate to alternate Continental Competitions and World Competitions. More news here

Competitions Formats

Charleroi 2023 is divided around two events:

  • Senior Women – Junior Men
    • From Friday 21st July  to Monday 24th July 2023
  • Senior Men – Junior Women – U17M
    • From Wed. 26th July to Sunday 30th July 2023

In total, 45 teams from the 14 nations will compete in those five competitions, for five different categories. With regards to the different number of teams per category, the competition format is adapted. Below is communicated the groups per competition with a link to a page per category, describing the competition format.

Senior Men

Senior Men category is an 11 teams competition. Teams are seeded into 3 groups as described in the image above. More news here

Senior Women

Senior Women category is a 8 teams competition. Teams are seeded into 2 groups as described in the image above. More news here

Junior Men

Junior men category is a 9 teams competition. Teams are seeded into 3 groups as described in the image above. More news here

Junior Women

Junior Women category is a 6 teams competition. Teams are seeded into 1 group as described in the image above. More news here

U17 Men category is an 11 teams competition. Teams are seeded into 3 groups as described in the image above. More news here

Seeding Process

In order to seed the teams into the groups, per category and format, WSE ILH has applied the Principe used by the International In Line Hockey Commission of World Skate for the Senior Men Ranking system. This system is inherited from IIHF and consists in attributing points to nations on a 4 years basis. As the Senior Men Ranking system is in place at World Skate since many years, the ranking has been used for Senior Men. For the 4 other categories, WSE ILH commission has created a dedicated ranking per category, having in mind the best sports approach. More news here
