CP Esneca Fraga is the big winner of the WSE Champions League Women by Azemad 2025/2026

What a match, what an atmosphere, what a celebration. CP Fraga won their second WSE Champions League Women’s Cup by Azemad by beating SL Benfica in a match where they were more clinical than their Portuguese opponents, a hard-fought contest that did credit to women’s rink hockey. Both teams wanted the trophy, but it was Fraga who lifted it

The match kicked off with both teams looking to finish, trying to catch the opposition off guard, and in the 5th minute CP Fraga struck, with a shot from Adriana Soto deflecting off a Benfica player and wrong-footing goalkeeper Maria Vieira.
Finding themselves behind early on, the Eagles had to take greater risks, taking control of the game with more possession and quicker attacks. But the Spanish side defended as a unit, closing down the paths to goal effectively and exploiting the counter-attack with great directness. This led to the 2-0, a quick attack and once again Adriana Soto, with a powerful shot from the center, beating the Portuguese goalkeeper.
The second half was a copy of the first, with Benfica taking risks and creating good attacking moves, but CP Fraga defended well, blocking the paths to goal. Whenever Benfica’s shots reached the goal, Anna Ferrer was there to save. Even when Aimée Blackman was awarded a direct free-kick after Fraga’s 10th foul, the Spanish goalkeeper proved unbeatable. Following that move, Blackman was fouled in the box, resulting in a penalty which Raquel Santos also failed to convert, this time against goalkeeper Leyre López.
Taking advantage of the power play, the Spanish defence was breached by Sara Roces with a mid-range shot from the centre. Benfica then entered a frantic spell, searching for an equaliser and taking risks. CP Fraga stuck to their strategy but were quick to capitalise on their opponents’ mistakes. And following a turnover in a dangerous area for the Reds, Carla Fontdegloria capitalised and scored her team’s third, a goal celebrated wildly by the whole squad, as it was clear the match might well have been decided there.
The Portuguese side were also shaken by the goal; their energy levels were no longer the same and their confidence began to wane. Fraga capitalised and scored again with five minutes to go, this time through Maria Sanjurjo.
The Eagles were awarded another power play with three minutes remaining, but even with a player down, Fraga defended well and the result was sealed.
The Spanish side celebrated their second WSE Champions League Woman by Azemad title, repeating their 2024 triumph.

What they said:
Jordi Capdevila, CP Fraga coach
“In a final, taking a two-goal lead gives you a lot of confidence. We played very well, stayed focused, and all our lines were working together seamlessly. We had a great goalkeeper and that also gave us an advantage, but today I didn’t want to single anyone out in particular; we had to be a united team and only then could we reach the final and win. We were brave from the first minute, we started well, we were clinical and scored at the right moments. This year we’ve won two titles in two finals, a reflection of the hard work we put in and which is carried out very well on a day-to-day basis.”
Paulo Almeida, SL Benfica coach
“Benfica started well; Fraga hadn’t done anything until the first goal, but they were clinical and scored with a bit of luck. Then they took control, showed patience and were clinical again for the 2-0. In the second half we had to be calmer and more patient, looking for the 2-1. But the turning point of the match was the set-pieces; we didn’t score and from then on I felt the team getting anxious. But our spirits dropped after the 3-1, then the 4-1, and I must congratulate Fraga because they were more clinical. Benfica were prepared for this match; today Fraga were the better side and ended up winning deservedly. But I must also congratulate my team on the great run we’ve had to reach the final.”
