The first round of the WSE Champions League Women’s Group Stage took place tonight. It was the only one of the six rounds to take place in 2023: the next matchday is scheduled for two months, on 13 January 2024, while the European Women’s Championship will be played in December. The Spanish teams scored this first round and the most important result of the evening belonged to the freshman Esneca Fraga who managed to beat SL Benfica 2-0. Sanjurjio and Soto scored the two decisive goals but the contribution of goalkeeper Anna Ferrer was also an important wall against the Portuguese attacks, including a direct shot at the end of the match. The three points also go to three other Spanish teams. TeleCable Gijon prevailed with a peremptory 14-2 against the Germans Remscheid, in a match characterized by five goals from Rodriguez and three from Ferreira. Victory also for HC Coruña 4-2 over the French Coutras. The two goals from Martin and Diz put a certainty on the match but the French did not fail in the second half, scoring the two goals with Cumella and Ribeiro.
