Paredes to host European Rink Hockey Championships

The Men’s and Women’s European Rink Hockey Championships will take place from 1st to 13th September at the Pavilhão Rota dos Móveis, in Paredes.

The municipality of Paredes will once again host the European Rink Hockey Championships, in both the men’s and women’s categories, between 1 and 13 September 2025. This will be the third time the municipality hosts the most prestigious European national team competition, in an event organised by World Skate Europe – Rink Hockey, which will bring together the 16 best teams on the continent.

Following the 2012 and 2021 editions, Paredes once again dresses up to welcome the elite of rink hockey. Matches will be held at the Pavilhão Rota dos Móveis, in Lordelo, which will again host the men’s competition after staging the 2012 edition. The venue, with a capacity of around 2,000 spectators, is fully prepared to offer an outstanding experience to athletes, coaching staff, and fans.

The Men’s European Championship kicks off on 1 September (and runs until the 6th), with four group stage matches. The main highlight of the first round is the clash between Portugal and Italy, scheduled for 21:45, a re-enactment of historic encounters between two of the sport’s powerhouses.

The opening day will also feature the following matches:
• 14:00 – Germany vs Andorra
• 16:30 – Switzerland vs Austria
• 19:00 – Spain vs France
• 21:45 – Portugal vs Italy
This will be a special moment for portuguese fans, who will have the chance to support the host nation in a venue expected to be fully packed.

The Women’s European Rink Hockey Championship will take place later, from 8 to 13 September. The event will bring together eight national teams, who will compete for the continental title in a tournament of high technical and sporting level.

The participating teams are divided into two groups, based on the final ranking of the previous edition of the competition.

The matches will be broadcast on DAZN, WSE TV, and RTP (for the matches involving Portugal).

Statements:
Orlando Panza, Chairman of WSE Rink Hockey
“The Municipality of Paredes will be, from 1st to 13th September, the centre of European rink hockey, hosting the 56th Men’s European Championship (WSE Euro Men) and the 18th Women’s European Championship (WSE Euro Women). These competitions will bring together Europe’s top national teams, in a high-level competitive environment and with excellent organisational standards, ensuring a high-quality competition in a space equipped with the best technical and logistical conditions.
This edition will be marked by a unique moment with the debut of video arbitration, through the Video Review System, already tested at the WSE Champions League Final Four and in senior national team competitions under the WSE’s supervision. This innovative tool will allow, for the first time, the review of crucial plays in real-time with the use of video footage, enhancing transparency and the quality of refereeing decisions.
The introduction of the VRS is not only a significant technical advancement but also a symbol of the evolution and modernisation of the sport, aligning rink hockey with the excellence standards applied in other major sports competitions. By ensuring fairer decisions, greater competitive balance, and fostering trust between players, coaches, referees, and the public, this technological development contributes directly to promoting fair play, sporting ethics, and the credibility of the competition
With excellent organisation, technological innovation, and the highest technical level on the rink, WSE Euro 2025 will be a moment of celebration for rink hockey and an institutional milestone in the development of the sport at the European and global levels.”

Luís Sénica, President of the Portuguese Federation of Roller Sports
“As we approach the Senior Men’s and Women’s European Rink Hockey Championships, I must enthusiastically highlight the excellence of the collaboration between all involved entities — World Skate Europe, the Portuguese Federation of Roller Sports, the Municipality of Paredes, the Porto Roller Sports Association, and Sigma Stars. This partnership is a testament to the commitment and passion we share for our sport. With the teams ready to take the field and the referees prepared to ensure a fair and rigorous competition, everything is in place for us to celebrate the best of European rink hockey. Let this event represent not only a competitive moment but also a time of sharing, respect, and inspiration for all participants.”

Alexandre Almeida, Mayor of the Municipality of Paredes
“It is with honour, pride, and responsibility, ensuring all the necessary conditions, that Paredes prepares to host the European Rink Hockey Championships. Portugal aims to reclaim the titles, national rink hockey needs to continue making history, and we hope Paredes will be the stage for the victories of our men’s and women’s teams. In our region, sport is lived in full across all dimensions, inclusively, as we support clubs and athletes from various disciplines, whether in professional or amateur competitions. Rink hockey has a strong tradition in Paredes, and many supporters. The Municipality of Paredes’ strategy and investment in organising major sporting events has already proven to be a success.
