The two Under 17 WSE European Championships will start on Monday in Olot (Spain)

From Monday in the Catalan town of Olot, at the foot of the Pyrenees, the second edition of the Under 17 European Championships will be held, under the organization of RFEP – Real Federación Española de Patinaje. There will be 14 teams competing for the two titles, which for the second time will be played together after the exciting first edition in Italy last September. If it is the second edition for the women’s championship, it is the 42nd edition for the men’s championship.

Under 17 WSE European Championship Women is made up of six teams, England, France, Germany, Italy, Portugal and Spain. Portugal was the first to lift the trophy, in a championship in which England was the biggest revelation, winning a silver, ahead of Italy. Youth women’s rink hockey is greatly improving, given the ever-increasing number of players and teams nationwide. Spain was the precursor of the women’s movement with a truly important pool of players and is the natural favorite for final success, but the other nations, Portugal first and foremost, have already made it clear that the level is rising progressively.

Of the nine teams initially registered, eight teams have confirmed their presence, due to the absence of Israel. The game formula of the 42nd edition of the Under 17 WSE Championship Men therefore changes, returning to the classic formula of two groups of four teams, dividing them based on the ranking of the last European Championship. There will be three days of play in both groups for a total of four matches per day. In Group A, Spain, Portugal, Italy, France and in Group B, Switzerland, England, Germany and Austria.
Spain dominates the category with 22 titles overall, 13 for Portugal and 6 for Italy. It has won the last five European Championships (and six in the last 8 editions) and remains the main favorite to win, despite the fact that Portugal, Italy and France also demonstrated in the last European Championship that they are also in the running. The Iberians always showed something extra that made the difference. Portugal doesn’t win since 2017, while Italy since 2014. A competition that heralds a certain balance behind the two European super powers who have played in the final for the 8th edition since 2015.

12 Referees designated for the championships: from Spain, Albert Barba, Alberto Perez, Erik Rivas and Daniel Villar; from Portugal: Silvia Coelho, Carlos Correia and Manuel Oliveira; from Italy: Ulderico Barbarisi and Claudio Ferraro; from France: Nuno Melo; from Germany: Thomas Ullrich; from England: Bruno Sosa

All matches will be broadcast on WSETV http://europe.worldskate.tv with the voice of Jose Santos. All results always live on http://wse.sidgad.com
while the WSE Rink Hockey social networks will follow all the matches with the planning, photos, results and interviews during the two competitions.
